Resumo:
The purpose of this research is to discuss the importance of an acquisition policy for museums collections, understanding this action as a fundamental stage in the cultural heritage management. We take as object of this study the Cabinet of Prints of the National Museum of Fine Arts, created in the beginning of the 1980’s under the coordination of the artist and cultural manager Carlos Martins, to analyze which parameters were applied by the first staff of the Cabinet in order to complement the print collection with works from brazilian artists. These parameters will provide us tools to evaluate in which ways the production of strategies for the expansion of a museum collection contributes for the increase of potencial and value of their heritage. This research will also examine how the development of public policies related to the cultural heritage in Brazil impacted the museological context. As a product, aiming a contribution to museum’s professionals, this research will present a guideline in order to orient the formulation of acquisition and disposal policies, providing approaches and proposing ideas that will facilitate its process of elaboration.
