Bibliotecas Parque do Rio de Janeiro: ingredientes de políticas cultural e urbana

Abstract

This article is a discussion of the relationship between the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) and the Bibliotecas Parque of Rio de Janeiro. It shows how the PAC took advantage of the successful experience of the Colombian cities of Bogota and Medellin, who faced crime in areas dominated by traffic, with an urbanization project that favored the construction of social facilities such as multi-functional libraries. It highlights the need for integration of various public policies, in order to get effective results focused on social inclusion and improve reading indicators. Proposes, at the end, a reflection on the generalization of the term “parque” in the face of actions of social communication and formulation of public policies for the sector.
