Resumen:
Reflection and analysis on the information literacy environment, from its origins up to the insertion in the contemporary society, under the focus of a new paradigm -techno-economic, highlighting the proliferation of information sources and resources and the necessity of democratization of knowledge through the development of new skills and creative management forms. The main theoretical models, standards and guidelines are discussed and their articulation with the best practices in different social ambiences. It ends with the characteristics indispensable to the programs of development of the Information literacy, describing future tendencies of this area of interest, considering it as a critical success factor for social development and innovation.
