Abstract:
This article is based on the study of digital engagement in the Favela Museum, Cantagalo, Pavão, Pavaozinho in Rio de Janeiro. The conceptual frame is the digital anthropology coined as a sub-discipline by Horst and Miller (2012) which highlights that digital activism can be seen as a socio-cultural mediation system. The arguments is also guided by Geismar (2012) who defines digital engagement in the museum context. She argues that the emergence of digital technologies is part of a long-standing trajectory of networking, classifying and forging representations of human being and material culture. The debate about personal memories, collective or culture memories can be highlighted for different contemporary issues. In each local digital culture, technology plays a different role. For this reason, it is important to understand, as a case study, first the context of the Favela Museum and how they share their thoughts and lifestyle in social media system.
