Abstract:
Access to culture and cultural goods of every citizen is entitled, but not everyone has access. The information technologies and the internet generate several options for expanding access to culture for individuals, generating a new culture - the digital. In this study, we sought to analyze the contributions of information technologies and the Internet to increase access to culture, using a digital book available for free, as a means of democratizing access to knowledge. To do so, we performed a bibliographic and documentary research on culture and the transformations promoted by information technologies and the Internet, causing the emergence of digital culture and how this new culture favors the democratization of access to knowledge for society. A survey of initiatives to publish free digital books that allow for greater democratization of access to knowledge and culture was also performed. It was noted that with the digital culture, citizens can participate in a wide and collaborative networks in the online form, expressing culturally and from viewers for cultural actors.
