Abstract:
Dance is an ephemeral art, for it vanishes the moment after it happens, remaining present only in the memory of those who witnessed it. This work aims to investigate how and why it is important to preserve the memory and history of dance, detailing their existing forms of recording, mapping their collections in Brazil and abroad, considering how to establish the transmission of their knowledge to the future generations and seeing the body of the dancer as the main memory place of this art. It also proposes the creation of the Museum of Dance in Brazil, and its objective would be to preserve and make available all forms of material records of dance, and especially to approach and integrate the dancing bodies as the main pieces of its collection. A Museum of Dance in Brazil would be a transforming lever and more than necessary for our art.
